Sonia is a Restoration Consultant in Walker’s downtown Chicago office. She is an architect specializing in building envelope investigation and remediation design. Her expertise lies in investigating the causes of water infiltration, including destructive and non-destructive testing methods. She incorporates standard methods for water testing, infrared thermography, and moisture testing, where appropriate, as tools to determine the causes of water infiltration. She provides assessments so that building owners can take informed and justified actions in their response to what can be an ongoing issue. She is responsible for preparing reports, completing repair construction documents, bidding assistance and construction administration services, and can provide preventative maintenance recommendations.
With a knowledge of restoration and repair, she assists architects, owners and general contractors during new construction as the Building Envelope Consultant for Quality Control and Building Envelope Commissioning. She completes “peer reviews,” mock-up recommendations, and quality assurance site visits. She provides the design team with valuable infield experience and technical knowledge in the areas of window, cladding, roofing, and waterproofing to uphold building envelope performance and prevent costly air and water infiltration issues. She can also recommend and perform in-field quality assurance tests during construction to meet different performance standards.
